What is BlurPane?
BlurPane is a browser extension that lets you blur, pixelate, or black out any content on a web page — client names, revenue figures, customer emails, API keys, a stray notification — before you screen-share, present, or record. Everything runs locally in your browser.
Does BlurPane collect any of my data?
No. BlurPane is 100% local. The free version makes zero network requests, and the content you view or blur never leaves your device. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Will the blur show up when I share my screen?
Yes. Once you blur an element or region, anyone watching your screen-share or recording sees only the rendered (blurred) pixels. You can talk through the page normally — the redaction rides along live.
The blurs disappear when I reload the page. Why?
Blurs are applied live in the page (the DOM) rather than baked into it permanently, so a full reload clears them. BlurPane Pro's saved rules fix this — they automatically re-apply your blurs every time you revisit the same site.
How do I save a redacted screenshot?
Today you can blur the content and then use your operating system's screenshot tool (Windows Win+Shift+S or macOS Cmd+Shift+4) — the blur is captured into the image. BlurPane Pro's one-click Capture to PNG does this for you and flattens the blurs so the redaction is truly irreversible.
Does the BlurPane side panel appear in my shared screen?
If you share a single browser tab, Chrome excludes the extension UI, so the panel won't show. If you share your whole screen or window, the panel is visible — just dock it aside or close it after you've placed your blurs.
Is the redaction truly irreversible?
For live screen-sharing and recording, viewers only ever see the blurred pixels. For maximum safety — for example, sending a file — use Solid Blackout mode or Pro's flattened PNG export, since a live CSS blur could in theory be inspected by someone with access to your own machine.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free gives you the full manual toolkit — element & region blur, pixelate, blackout, adjustable intensity, panic button, and keyboard shortcuts — with unlimited blurs, 100% local. Pro adds saved rules & profiles (auto re-blur), automatic PII detection, idle/auto-blur, one-click capture to PNG, and cloud sync.
How do I upgrade to Pro or restore my purchase?
Pro is handled securely through ExtensionPay (which uses Stripe). Open BlurPane's panel, choose Upgrade, and complete checkout. To restore Pro on a new device, open the panel and sign in with the same email you purchased with.
What permissions does BlurPane need, and why?
Only what's needed to place blurs on the page you choose: storage (to remember your settings), access to the active page (to apply the blur), and the side panel (the control UI). Pro adds tabs, downloads, and idle for saved rules, screenshot capture, and auto-blur. BlurPane never sends page content anywhere — details are in the Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my data?
Your settings live only on your device — clear them inside the extension or uninstall BlurPane to remove everything. If you ever enable optional cloud sync, email support@digitgrove.com and we'll delete your synced data.
Are there keyboard shortcuts?
Yes — press Esc to exit blur mode at any time, and you can set a custom toggle shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
